Nepheline syenite is a natural stone made primarily of the minerals albite, microcline and nepheline. This mineral raw material contains no crystalline quartz. Nepheline syenite is inert and very hard (Mohs hardness 6.5), and also exhibits a high degree of whiteness and outstanding transparency.
Features
• thick-slated structure
• hardness of 6 (Mohs)
• density of 2.6 g/cm3
• high degree of whiteness (Y-value > 90)
• high chemical resistance
• low refraction index of 1.53 – 1.55
• has a transparent behaviour in many binder systems
Key applications
• porcelain
• ceramics
• glass
• clear lacquer systems (among others UV-hardening lacquer systems)
• dispersion paints
• silicate- paints and plasters
• plastic films
