Gluhivzi plant (Ukraine)

Kaolin has been mined in the Gluhivzi region of the Ukrainian province of Vinnytsa for more than 100 years.
Until the 1970s, Gluhivzi was one of Europe’s leading sources of kaolin.
After acquiring a majority holding, culminating in the purchase of remaining share of the AKW Ukrainian Kaolin Company in 2007, Amberg Kaolin Works is carrying on the 100-year-long tradition of kaolin mining in the Ukraine and transforming the western Ukrainian kaolin plant into a major international player.
An extensive investment program to modernize the existing facilities is underway. At the same time, plans are being made for the construction of a new kaolin plant employing a modular system.
Just a few kilometers away from the Gluhivzi plant, in the town of Weliko Gadominez (Zythomir province), lies an as-yet-untouched deposit of kaolin – Europe’s largest – with enough high-quality raw materials to supply our Ukrainian plants for many generations to come.
Excavation of topsoil began in Weliko Gadominez in early 2007. This is a necessary step to reach the high-quality kaolin clay underneath. The deposit will provide sufficient kaolin for generations.
